Subhan Allah, the day of Victory has come : Eid-ul-fitr

Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar

this is the Day of Eid, the Day of reckoning, the Day of rewards, the Day of gathering, the Day of Victory

Let us all rejoice in faith, unity, love, compassion and peace

Dear brothers and sisters, from all over the world, I pray with all my heart,

That Allah strengthens our heart with powerful iman,

That Allah shed light in our hearts

That Allah always feed us with halal food and provide for us with ease

I pray for my brothers and sisters who are undergoing their tests in this life, that Allah accompany them

so that their tests become a means of guidance for them all.

Eid has been given to our community. It is such a unique and auspicious moment of joy and full bliss

We ask Allah to accept all our deeds done sincerely for His Sake and we hope, deep down in our hearts,

that Allah will forgive us our shortcomings, will purify our hearts from all diseases, will show mercy upon us

and will change our bad habits into good.

EID SA’EED TO ALL OF YOU. MAY ALLAH FORGIVE OUR PARENTS WHO ARE ALREADY DEAD AND THOSE WHO ARE STILL AMONG US. MAY ALLAH GIVE US GOOD HEALTH TO CONTINUE OUR MISSION ON EARTH.

INDEED, THERE IS NO MERCY EXCEPT THE MERCY OF ALLAH. THERE IS NO HOPE EXCEPT TO HOPE IN ALLAH. ALLAH, THE SUPREME, THE MERCIFUL, THE MOST GENEROUS, THE MOST KIND….NO WORDS CAN EVER EXPRESS WHAT OUR HEART FEEL ON THIS DAY OF EID, AND WE SAY: AL HAMDULILLAH, AL HAMDULILLAH, AL HAMDULILLAH TO YOU…

EID-UL-FITR IN MAURITIUS

Mauritius is a peaceful and blessed island, Alhamdulillah. Muslims have been bestowed great opportunities through the labour of their ancestors. Though Muslims are a minority with some 17 percent of the whole Mauritian population, Islam is gaining more and more interest

Muslims are scattered throughout the island and the main gatherings of Muslims are in Port-Louis the capital, especially in Plaine Verte. Here, you can feel the celebration of Eid in its glamour. Pagoda street is busy and joyous with food, cakes, dresses, abayas, flowers, bags, shoes, mehendi and mehendi artists….

Eid in Mauritius is a time where people connect with each other, not only among Muslims – the non-Muslims who like to be in the presence of Muslims too. They are most welcomed by the community to buy, to share, to interact….Alhamdulillah

Eid is a time of blessings because it allows merchants to sell their products and feed their families and feel the satisfaction of earning halal. The declicious food cooked and sold helps to discover new recipes and new ways of cooking too

The young mehendi artists show their talents and earn a living through their arts. This is a good thing for them.

The emotion relieved on the eve of Eid is a positive thing because it allows people to breathe and be happy. [Doing excess is prohibited]

Eid is the time to reconcile with families and friends and to visit the elders and this is the powerful point of the Mauritian Muslims who love to visit their families and elders and take pride in it for so many years, and we pray that this tradition continues in sha Allah

In Mauritius, children find great solace and happiness during the period of Eid. Eid is not celebrated in one day; rather the whole week is Eid and often a whole month [Al hamdulillah] because it takes a long time to visit all the families and friends and to have lunch with them. This is the Mauritian tradition of course [smile]. And why do children like Eid so much, you may ask? Well, they get plenty of envelopes : mummy, daddy, elder sisters and brothers, aunties, uncles, grannies….and the list is long !!!  [hihihi]

What do Mauritian Muslims eat on the day of Eid?

It is a local tradition to eat sweet vermicelli after salat-ul-Eid. Vermicelli is cooked in milked, with sugar and almond. the almond and cardamoms are initially roasted in the ghee or butter.

For lunch, the family gathers around the famous briani or biryani. Mauritius is well-known for its briani recipe which according to many, believe that the best briani is cooked in Mauritius [Ohhh yes, it is !!!] Just come and taste it, not the commercial one, but the traditional one!!!
